Account director – £48,000 p/a + pension + 25 days holiday

Do you look at things a bit differently from most people you know?

Okay. We might have something for you.

You are a special person who has worked in PR or content marketing for at least six years and you are chomping at the bit for a senior role with more autonomy and the freedom to be creative. We are a fresh, young and fast-growing content marketing agency in one of the hottest areas of UK commerce.

We live and breathe fintech – we’re serious; we really love it – and we need an account director to help Foco deliver communications for some of the most pioneering businesses in Britain and develop the right team and strategies to do so.

You don’t have to have worked in the finance or tech sector, but it is a bonus – especially if you understand pensions or financial advice. Ideally, you’ll have a keen understanding or willingness to get to grips with the impact of evolving tech in our society.

We don’t distinguish between ‘traditional’ comms and ‘digital’ comms people at Foco. All of us make it our business to understand digital media and online content, as well as the current pressures the publishing industry faces. Understanding and being passionate about the landscape in which we operate in is crucial. You will be expected to keep abreast of what Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin are up to as well as the main publishers, plus any other regulatory changes that affect the people we work with every day.

A bit more about you

Our clients are our lifeblood. You will run an account team that delivers superb results predictably and consistently, whether those businesses are looking for likes, links, subscribers, sales, shares, downloads, attendees, votes, column inches, donations, views, downloads or mentions.

Account responsibilities

With the support of a junior and management team, you will be responsible for:

  • Driving and executing strategy across client accounts, training junior staff in delivery.

  • Line manage junior colleagues, sharing colleagues’ progress to senior members of the team on a regular basis.

  • Recruiting and managing external suppliers to deliver workflows when appropriate.

  • Reporting on a weekly basis on progress of accounts to management team, including opportunities to ‘upsell’ or ‘cross-sell’ project work where possible, highlighting over-servicing and/or any other issues as they arise.

  • Understanding and supporting the execution of integrated strategies for our clients across owned and earned disciplines, including social media, PR and content.

  • Producing content including press releases, videos, blog posts, case studies, press packs and photography.

  • Commissioning content from Foco’s Content Lab™.

  • ‘Selling in’ stories, features and articles written by or on behalf of clients across national, regional, consumer and trade media.

  • Interacting with journalists and online influencers on behalf of Foco and our clients, including: responding to their phone calls and emails, arranging meetings and interviews with them and developing and maintaining relationships.

  • Supporting junior staff in monitoring the media – including newspapers, magazines, websites, blogs, broadcasts, newswires and social media sites – for opportunities for clients.

  • Supporting junior staff in monitoring online and offline media and social media coverage for mentions of clients and topics of specific interest and delivering analytics reports based on agreed KPIs to colleagues and/or clients.

  • Attending client events and industry conferences alongside Foco colleagues.

  • Supervising the handling of clients’ social media accounts such as their Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn pages.

  • Working with colleagues and/or clients to brainstorm ideas for PR campaigns based on the aspirations and marketplaces of clients.

  • Assisting in Foco’s own marketing including photography, events and the writing, editing and production of blog posts, social media updates, reports and podcasts.

  • Assisting in new business activities, including preparing and attending pitches.

Client relations responsibilities

  • Ensuring Foco communicates regularly with all clients and is alive to any concerns or ad hoc requirements they might have and that these are raised with more senior colleagues and dealt with promptly, professionally and effectively.

  • Maintaining the best possible relations with every client or prospective client by ensuring a professional, informed and friendly manner at all times.

  • Getting to know each client you are working with, understanding and knowing their competitors to ensure you place the content we create on relevant sites and platforms.

General responsibilities

  • Adhering to company policies and procedures, e.g. keeping accurate timesheets.

  • Mentoring junior staff.

  • Executing general office duties, e.g. collecting newspapers, taking post.

  • Contributing to keeping the office clean and tidy.

Personal attributes:

We are looking for an individual who has:

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.

  • Strong communication and empathy.

  • Appetite for continuous learning and growth.

  • Competence with standard office I.T., including Microsoft Office, Gmail Enterprise or iOS, email and social media services such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

  • Confidence, creativity, motivation, organisation, ambition and a cracking sense of humour.

Working hours and location

We would expect our new team member to be flexible and we would be flexible in return. We don’t really have working hours – so long as the work is done – but, as a guide, we’d expect 35 hours a week to be the average.

We offer 25 days holiday, which can be taken at any time so long as your manager has agreed these and does not have any reasonable objections.

We also offer the full seven Bank Holidays as standard.

You might be expected to work outside normal working hours occasionally and sometimes longer than usual but you will be given lieu time if this is significant.

You will be located in our Covent Garden HQ but occasional home-working will be possible by agreement. It is highly likely you will be expected to attend client meetings and if travel is involved, Foco will fund this.

Professional development

One of Foco’s founding principles is that we want our people to become the best they can be while they are with us. Because of this, we have set aside an annual training and development budget – The Foco Talent Fund™ – for each member of staff.

Your line manager will be responsible for monitoring and encouraging your development against annual professional development targets. This will happen through a series of formal and informal meetings, including weekly chats about client work and six-monthly appraisals.

We will also offer a variety of external courses, professional qualifications and other learning opportunities, such as conferences, as part of your annual training programme.

Career prospects

If you show a flair for the role, you may expect to be promoted in around 18 months to two years to one of three heads of service roles, taking responsibility for all client accounts, new business and staff. Within ten years, talented practitioners may expect to be asked to sit at board level.
